Whitehead Institute website and poster win top Council for Advancement and Support of Education awards

Boston, January 15, 2002—The Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research won the gold award at the CASE 2001 Publications Awards Competition in the World Wide Web category. The site, which launched last spring, was developed by Sametz Blackstone Associates in collaboration with Whitehead Institute staff.

The Whitehead Institute also received honorable mention in the Poster category for "Symposium XIX: Genomic Information." (Last year, "Molecular Machines" won a gold award in the poster category in the CASE competition.)

The website and poster are both part of a broad branding and communications initiative that Sametz Blackstone collaborated to develop and implement for the Whitehead Institute.

"The Whitehead Institute is part of the rapidly changing world of research and innovation in biomedical science. Over the many years that we have worked with the Whitehead, it, its audiences, and the landscape in which it operates have changed significantly. The new communications program, of which the website is a critical part, responds to the excitement, change, energy, and innovation that informs all of the Whitehead Institute's endeavors."—Andrew Maydoney, vice president, Sametz Blackstone Associates.

Seema Kumar, Associate Director and Chief Communications Officer of Whitehead is Center for Genome Research adds: "Our partnership with Sametz Blackstone has helped us to refine the audiences with whom we communicate and helped us deliver our messages in a consistent, compelling, and aesthetic manner—in a voice that connects and resonates."
